Complete liquidation of the former Old Town Pulp Mill in Old Town, Maine

After acquiring and reopening the mill in 2014, Expera encountered several market forces which would not allow for sustainable operations. Management quoted the decline of the Canadian dollar exchange rate, the decline of market pulp prices, and an unforgiving wood cost which did not commensurate with the demand declines of the restarted mill.

Currently, discussions with local investors are ongoing for select components of the complex (bio mass boiler plant, waste water treatment operation, and warehousing facilities). However, the auction will include all pulp processing systems along with an enormous amount of general plant equipment.

Sale Highlights:

Pulp Process and Drying Plant: (2) Complete digester systems rated at 250 and 600 tons per day; newly rebuilt Bird pressure screens, assortment of Impco finishing screens, GL&V brown stock rotary vacuum wash systems, Complete paper pulp drying line with lamb cutter slitter and hydraulic baling press, plus wide assortment of heat exchangers, vacuum pumps and Andritz large volume rotary valves.

Wood Chip Receiving & Storage: Phelps hydraulic truck dump, nearly 2400’ of trough belt conveyors, assorted Dings and Stearn’s belt magnets, 500 hp hog grinder, Williams roll crusher, large horse power Sutorbilt chip blowers, Precision and Radar star feeders, inventory of rebuilt chip blowers and rotary valves, plus chip storage silos and plc control systems.

Power House & Electrical: Complete bio mass boiler plant with G.E. 16.5 MEG turbine gen set.
Purchased in 2005, moved and fully refurbished at the Old Town site. Complete with updated electrical control room; 1998 installed Combustion Eng. steam generation plant producing 188,500 lbs./hr. at 740 psi; Huge assortment of electrical switchgear, substations and motor control centers.

Water System, Purification and Pumps: 2014 installed raw water intake system featuring 150 hp vertical pumps, new fire system, plus Cummins 600 kw emergency gen set; large capacity Ionics reverse osmosis system with multi-media skid; Over (100) pump sets up to 600 hp, many stainless steel split case types; Complete pump repair shop with large inventory of rebuilt pump heads for all sizes.

General Plant & Mobile Equipment: Complete machine shop with cutting, fabricating and welding departments; Mobile equipment fleet with Cat front end loaders, Linkbelt 28 ton rough terrain crane; Bobcat skid steer loaders; light duty flatbeds and pick-ups; portable air compressors; large inventory of spares and stores including bearings, electrical and flow controls, spare motors and drives.
